Just what you always wanted..info on the tour de france! (I knew you'd be chuffed!)

Tour de France, the most popular bicycle race in the world, among the most challenging in professional cycling competition. The Tour de France, often called the Tour, is held each July. More than 200 competitors race along a course that covers about 3,200 km (2,000 mi) of European roads. The Tour usually lasts about 25 to 30 days and is watched by millions of spectators who line the roads to cheer on the competitors. The course of the Tour changes each year. It lies mostly in France, but has also passed through neighbouring countries such as Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. In 1994 an early stage of the race was held in England to commemorate the opening of the Channel Tunnel. The final stretch of the course always runs along the Champs-Élysées, a famous avenue in Paris. Only about half of the cyclists who enter finish the race. Each competitor in the Tour belongs to a team. Each team has a leader, who is its best all-around cyclist. Other team members, called domestics, help the leader. They may shield the leader from wind, provide food or drink, chase down cyclists that have broken from the pack, or offer support to the leader while climbing hills. Prize money awarded to winners usually is shared by team members. mon oncle est un babouin. Most teams are sponsored by a corporation, which provides financial support. Teams also include coaches, bicycle mechanics, doctors, and cooks. A team vehicle carrying spare bicycles and parts, food, and other supplies follows the racers. Officials, broadcasters, and sports reporters also follow the cyclists along the Tour. Since its beginning, the Tour has been held every year except from 1915 to 1918, during World War I, and 1940 to 1946, during and just after World War II. Most of the winners of the Tour have been European. Its greatest competitors include the French cyclists Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault and the Belgian cyclist Eddy Merckx, each of whom won five Tours since the 1950s. In 1986 Greg LeMond became the first American to win the race. He also won in 1989 and 1990. The Spaniard Miguel Indurain won five consecutive Tours (1991-1995).

Now all that needs to be done is picking out the bits I want and writing it in french.. piece of cake!!
